Customer QR codes for pickups and reorders

Customers scan the QR code on an empty keg, crate or container to request a pickup or reorder, in the browser without an app. Rotion creates the task.

With Rotion, the QR code on a returnable asset also works for your customers. A bar owner, a shop or a site manager scans the code on an empty keg, crate or container with the phone camera, and asks for a pickup or reorders in the browser, without installing an app. Rotion creates the pickup task or passes the order on to your systems, linked to the exact asset and customer.

Why let customers request pickups by scanning?

Empty assets at a customer are idle fleet. They sit in a cellar or a backroom until a driver happens to come by, or until someone calls. A scan-to-request flow makes the customer the trigger: the moment an asset is empty, one scan puts it on the pickup list, with the location and the quantity already filled in.

The same scan works for reordering. A customer who just emptied a keg can order the next one from the keg itself, which keeps refills and empties on the same visit.

How does a customer pickup request work?

  1. The customer scans the QR code on the empty asset with the phone camera.
  2. A page opens in the browser, on your brand and domain, showing the asset and the customer's site.
  3. The customer asks for a pickup, adds how many empties are waiting if there are more, and confirms.
  4. Rotion creates a pickup task for that customer and site, visible to your planning and drivers.
  5. When the driver collects the assets, the return scan closes the task and updates the customer's balance.

No account or app is needed on the customer's side. Rotion codes follow GS1 Digital Link, so any phone camera opens the right page. See QR code asset tracking with a phone.

How does reordering from a QR code work?

The customer scans the code, chooses to reorder, and confirms the product and quantity. Rotion records the request against the customer and passes it on to your order system through the REST API, so it lands where your orders already live. Pickups for the empties can be added to the same request, so the delivery and the collection are planned as one visit.

What does the scan tell you beyond the request?

Every scan is also a data point. It confirms the asset is at that customer, empty, at that moment, which keeps balances current without a stocktake. Requests per customer show who returns quickly and who holds assets, and pickups that are requested but not collected surface as exceptions for your team.
